does anybody know witch side of the gun barrel the larger bayonet lug goes ? , made the barrel and lug's are on,it would be a pity to have the lug's the wrong way around :slap:

If you scroll down the pages here http://www.rifleman.org.uk/Enfield_Rifl ... rawing.htm there are some technical drawings which may help.. Or did the Mk7 have a different bayonet?

Wish I could have come down to surry and just sat and watched you putting this together, really fascinating stuff.

Seeing as S&S are only an hour or so away from me maybe they'd let me sit in the corner of their workshop.

after a great deal of sole searching and careful deliberation i have decided that Chris no longer wants this rifle and that i will have to keep it for myself
finished of the bolt cocking handle assembly , the original rearmost part i have copied instead of using as it would have complicated things too much, inset into it is a spring and ball latch from the original vsr so it clicks into place, i drilled into the rear face of the bolt and hammered in a drift pin and milled a curved slot in the cocking handle extension to act as a limit stop so the cocking handle cannot turn over far .i fitted the new barrel complete with bayonet lug's to the front woodwork .its all looking very finished all of a sudden, still need to cut the mag well and replace a few screws here and there.
rearmost part and original as comparison

and on the gun

barrel

with the pig sticker attached

time. well i'm on short shift's at this time of year ,half days effectively
effort. this ebb's and flows but i'd rather be crafting in the workshop than watching tv
skill. well i'm dyslexic ,i have the reading speed of a 10 year old ,i can't spell for candy, my maths is affected also, but i'm a firm believer that everybody has a thing they can do better than everybody else if they can find it.
all that aside i'm winding down at the moment on customer guns, i have one last commission for a Kar98k then i'm focusing on a lot off stuff i want to do for me, not least of all a face lift for my No4 as this one knocks spots off it.

cut the mag well out and the mag catch is giving me ball-ache , it's always the same there's so little wood to cover the catch that you have to cut the catch as thin as possible ,now its sticking. may resort to replacing it with one that you slide forward rather than press a button, will also give me another 1mm depth to lower the hop to a perfect line.
Chris you are going to be a little unhappy as the mag's will protrude out the bottom but there's nothing to be done i'm afraid ,on the bright side nobody will see it as it's under you'r hand in use and you can remove the mag for pictures, painting them may help and maybe profiling the underside of the mag's to be curved rather than flat will help but i can't make it flush ,sorry i did mention it before and some stocks are deeper than others but not in this case,i'll post some pictures in a while.

Would anyone know of a brand/make of VSR10 mag that might be slightly less deep. This is a JG VSR10 mag.
I remember reading on a thread some where that they can vary by a couple of mm's in depth, which would make all the difference here.

i've re profiled the bottom of half of a mag and put some paint on ,the paint is only acrylic and will come off really easy and is not a good colour mach but gives the impression, it a way from perfect but is a lot less obvious.the two pictures are from near enough the same angle off the same mag from both sides.

and a close one

i just don't dare go any further or i'll go through the plastic.

We found that some wood effect vinyl was a good way to hide the base of the mag in such cases.

Wood effect vinyl or paint was always going to be way even if it was flush fit. Just hoping we could get it slightly more flush with a different mag first.

the walnut veneer arrived yesterday so i finished the profiling of the first mag and aroldited on the taped into position the first piece. removed the tape and sanded the edges ,matched the colour with a little stain.looks pretty good to me.

also replaced the horrible bolt in the end of the bolt

also wifes feet and dogs
